Syracuse forward Peyton Armstrong has been named the Atlantic Hockey America Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The award comes following her game-winning goal that lifted SU past Robert Morris 3-2 in double overtime, clinching the program’s first postseason win since Feb. 26, 2022.

Amid Syracuse’s lowest-scoring performance against RMU this season, Armstrong struggled to make an impact in regulation. During the contest’s first three periods, she accumulated a tripping penalty, two shot attempts (one on target) and a loss on her one attempt in the faceoff circle.

But once the game reached sudden-death overtime, Armstrong found her form. Minutes into the first overtime period, she nearly ended the game on a partial breakaway but was denied by the Colonials’ Lucy Phillips. When she found herself in a similar situation in double overtime, Armstrong redeemed herself. Using a slick toe drag, she curled the puck around her defender and roofed a wrist shot over Phillips’ shoulder to end the 82-minute contest.

In her freshman season, Armstrong has emerged as a reliable winger for the Orange with 14 points (five goals, nine assists) and now has recorded four points in her last four games. Thanks to her overtime tally, Syracuse will continue its postseason quest at No. 2-seeded Mercyhurst this weekend in a three-game series.
