Syracuse University and the Major League Baseball Players Association will offer industry-specific online degrees, certificates and credentials to current and former MLB players, the organizations announced Tuesday in a press release. Educational opportunities will be accessible through online formats and in SU’s Study Away sites in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles.

Under the agreement, SU will offer a range of non-credit professional development and executive education training programs, courses and workshops. The MLBPA desires to expand career opportunities for thousands of players through the skills learned through the David B. Falk College of Sport, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Martin J. Whitman School of Management and College of Professional Studies.

MLBPA represents 1,200 players on major league rosters and 5,500 minor league baseball employees.

“The Major League Baseball Players Association is thrilled to partner with Syracuse University to provide our members with exceptional educational opportunities,” Chris Singleton, the MLBPA’s special assistant for player resource programs and a former MLB outfielder, said in the press release. “This collaboration underscores our commitment to supporting players both on and off the field, ensuring they have access to world-class academic resources that empower their personal and professional growth.”

In the release provided by both SU and the MLBPA, the following objectives for the collaboration were listed: skill development and post-career readiness, research and innovation, practical experiences and networking opportunities.

“This partnership reflects our collectively held value that higher education should be achievable for everyone, regardless of the demands of their profession or personal circumstances,” Falk College Dean Jeremy Jordan said in the release. “For athletes and professionals with unpredictable schedules, our online programs offer the perfect balance of flexibility, robust academic support and real-world applicability—all without compromising their careers.”

Tuesday’s release has no set timeline for when the collaboration will begin.
